Here’s an article about the recent law passed requiring excavators to call 911 if they damage an underground pipeline. It has its origins in a 2005 Pennsylvania accident. Pennsylvania recently passed a similar law.

Both Cingular and T-Mobile have agreed to implement 811 at no charge nationally.
Also, North Dakota & South Dakota passed state laws requiring that 811 must be implemented statewide by 12/31/06.
811 is moving full speed ahead!
The Common Ground Alliance has three awards that are presented to leaders in the damage prevention industry. Nominations for the annual Ron Olitsky Awards is due December 8. The award will be presented at the annual CGA meeting March 7, 2007 in Orlando.
